These simple hoop earrings are hand carved from tagua and finished with sterling silver posts. Tagua is a seed from a type of palm tree that grows in the South American rainforests. Often known as vegetable ivory, tagua is an environmentally friendly alternative to animal ivory. The seed is hand carved, dyed and polished in Ecuador where fair trade projects provide financial security to otherwise disadvantaged communities. Tagua may darken slightly over time, it can be buffed up with a soft white cotton cloth.
