Fair Trade Fortnight 2018

Fair Trade Fortnight 2018

Beginning on February 26th and running until March 11th Fairtrade fortnight aims to promote and increase awareness of Fairtrade products and principles. When trade is fair it has the potential to improve the lives of the farmers and workers. When trade is fair, it can make the world a better place.

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers.  It’s about supporting the development of thriving farming and worker communities that have more control over their futures and protecting the environment in which they live and work.

Fair trade is not restricted to food and flowers, many of our artisan producers work to fair-trade standards. Throughout the world small companies are working hard to maintain traditional skills and improve the lives of local workers within disadvantaged communities.

These textured handwoven long scarves are made from sustainable banana yarn fibre from the Terai region in the South of Nepal. The banana plant is cut back after the harvest and the wastage is boiled and made into yarn. The Nepalese factory employs local people using traditional skills and support is given to those living with discrimination and disabilities, providing an income for themselves and their families.
